23 A small update to the DLX download: if you use this and haven't been able to get the files to compile properly on a Unix/Linux system then try the new download zip. The problem was that the dasm and masm assemblers couldn't handle CRLF line endings. Alternatively, just resave the files in Unix format before trying to compile them.

27 Over the weekend I installed Windows Vista Beta 2 on a PC to see what it was like. Now, given that the specs say that it should be able to run on an 800MHz/512MB system and I was running it on a 2GHz/768MB system, then I would have expected it to run somewhat faster than a slug! My initial impression was that most of the 'improvements' are nothing more than eye-candy and they come at too high a cost at the moment.

For a really good/bad (you decide) example of how eye-candy has taken over try out the new version of the Spider Solitaire game - it looks absolutely revolting and grinds along painfully - give me the XP version any day!

I've also been trying out Kubuntu 6.06 on a 1.4GHz/384MB system and guess what...
...it runs far smoother than Vista! Could be the way to go...
22 Several more photos added to the photos section. Mainly shots of the countryside around the south Norfolk village of Shotesham and the young frogs in my garden pond!
